Vitra Aluminium Group Chairs Vitra Aluminium Group Chairs

Charles & Ray Eames, 1958

The Aluminium Chair is one of the greatest furniture designs of the 20th century. The Aluminium Chair stands out for its intelligent combination of materials. The covers are attached inside the aluminium profile sections and simply stretched over the frame, transforming them from mere coverings to a load-bearing part of the structure. It adapts to fit the body snugly and delivers great comfort, even without extensive upholstery.

Vitra has produced the Aluminium Chair programme for many decades to a consistently high quality. On the basis of this experience we are now granting a 30-year guarantee on all chairs of the Aluminium Group.

Vitra Soft Pad Group Chairs Vitra Soft Pad Group Chairs

Charles & Ray Eames, 1969

The Soft Pad Chair was designed in 1969. In terms of construction and design it is identical to the Aluminium Chair. The attached padded sections form an interesting contrast to the elegant aluminium frame. They make the Soft Pad Chair softer and plusher, without detracting from its transparency and clear lines.

The models comprising the Soft Pad Group are suitable for a large number of uses: in the office, in conference and reception areas, but also at home.

Vitra AC4 Chairs Vitra AC4 Chairs

Antonio Citterio, 2008

When designing the AC 4, the aim was to subtly integrate the functions required to provide the best level of comfort. The reason for this is that until now, office chairs were either designed with a view to aesthetics or to functional characteristics. The AC 4, by contrast, integrates its ergonomic properties in such a subtle way that the constructional tricks are hidden away. The AC 4 creates a balance between advanced ergonomic functionality and subtle design. The innovative technology is neither showy nor hidden under foam padding. This makes the AC 4 an iconic object with an aura of elegance coupled with uncompromising functionality.

Automatic weight adjustment

The synchronous mechanism with large opening angle and automatic weight adjustment of the backrest resistance ensure that the user’s weight is supported in every sitting position.

Armrests

The multifunctional 3D armrests can be rotated by 360 degrees, which is very useful with e.g. table-oriented work. The aluminium ring armrests are an elegant variation for conferences, especially when leather-upholstered.

Ecology

51% of the materials used to produce the AC 4 are recycled and 94% of all materials are recyclable.

Vitra Headline Chairs Vitra Headline Chairs

Mario Bellini & Claudio Bellini, 2005

HeadLine offers a comprehensive solution to the ergonomic needs of the modern office worker: It not only provides optimal support in the lumbar zone, but also pays attention to vulnerable areas that have previously been neglected—the shoulders, neck and head.

In an upright sitting position, the head is naturally balanced on the spinal column. However, when the sitter alters this position—thereby changing the parameters of a chair's supportive functions—the inevitable result is muscle strain in the neck and shoulders. A conventional office chair has a contoured backrest with a curve in the lumbar zone to support the sitter's torso. In the reclined position, however, the head is no longer aligned with the spine, forcing the shoulder and neck muscles to bear its weight. This results in strain and tension.

Vitra Worknest Chairs Vitra Worknest Chairs

Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, 2006

Worknest is quite the opposite to technical in appearance, deliberately stressing as it does homely features. In the consistency of its design, and its calm, yet emotional shape, it exudes sheer comfort and ingeniously conceals the technical features. Even the armrests are covered with knitted fabric, its extreme elasticity ensuring that the functions are fully maintained. As such Worknest’s invisible, cutting-edge mechanism ensures the harmonious operation of all moving parts while offering maximum ergonomic quality.

Vitra Lobby Chairs Vitra Lobby Chairs

Charles & Ray Eames, 1960

The Lobby Chair's structural principle makes it similar in terms of comfort to the Lounge Chair. It consists of three individual upholstered sections connected by means of aluminium side sections. The Lobby Chairs were originally designed for the lobby at the Rockefeller Center in New York, in subsequent years various versions were produced, but they all have one thing in common: outstanding comfort.

Vitra Lounge Chairs Vitra Lounge Chairs

Charles & Ray Eames, 1956

Charles Eames' declared aim for this chair was to combine the utmost comfort with high-end materials and high-quality finishing. The result: a modern interpretation of the traditional club armchair boasting a convincingly well thought-out construction, right down to its tiniest details. Just as he intended, the chair conveys the impression of a soft, well-used baseball glove, inviting the user to sink back into it.
